Crumbling Wall - Texture Pack

This series of images was taken in various locations (around Larderello, Sasso Pisano and Monterotondo Marittimo mainly) during my last two vacations in Tuscany, Italy (2013 + 2014).
This region is one where geothermal energy is used in power plants and there are a lot of places where you can see hot gas / steam coming out of the ground (this is called a "Fumarole"). The gas contains sulfur (mostly as H2S) as well as other acidic components that will react with the rock around it and leave colourful reaction products as well as "bleached rock" (in Italy, these bleached rocks are called the "Bianchane", from bianco = white). The acidic components also make the environment less suited for the usually present flora and thus you get patches with unusual flora in its place. The purple flowers seen in some images are heather which you would usually only see in the alps, high up.
