Depth of Field Photomanipulation Tutorial Part 1 by kuschelirmel-stock Depth of Field Photomanipulation Tutorial Part 1 by kuschelirmel-stock
Bullet; Purple Bullet; Purple Bullet; Purple  About:
You have probably all seen it done without knowing the technical term for it: that "blurry background / blurry foreground thing" that can help you get some depth into your manip. The technical term - Depth of Field - describes the part of a photograph that is in focus while the camera renders everything outside the DoF as blurry. In this tutorial, I am trying to teach you how the effect comes about in classic photography (without going into too much detail - the photographers present are asked to excuse this), what you need to look out for in terms of pitfalls and how to use Photoshop tools to simulate the effect.

I would love to hear your comments - all my tutorials are free, but the time it takes to write them is usually considerable, so a little feedback would be welcome, to keep my spirits up ;)

I knew about Depth of Field, but I love how you incorporated some photography in there (ex: when you go back and zoom, there's more blur, and just about aperture in general). I have to go and take out my camera, and try varying those effects. Thanks! (:

:w00t: that is great to hear!
In the beginning, I wanted to split the tutorial after the "Understanding the Mechanics" part and upload part 1 to the photography section, but part two was too long to upload so I had to do a different split ^^; I hope other beginner photographers may find this useful as well (and find it buried in the manips gallery like this)
