Is that a death clock? What I mean is, it looks like one of the special ones where they used mercury as a agent to bind the gold to the design/

I have no clue to be honest - it was on display in Napoleon's apartments at the Louvre if that helps. There's not all that much info in English around the museum (unless, I suppose, you take the audio tour for which I was a) too cheap and b) didn't bring enough time).
