Manip T+T - Cutting Techniques by kuschelirmel-stock Manip T+T - Cutting Techniques by kuschelirmel-stock
I was getting tired of people claiming one method of cutting was better than another. In my opinion, there's not "one right method" but the right method for the right task. Therefore, I think one should learn as many techniques as possible so you can always choose one that fits the circumstances. This tutorial/guide will hopefully help you with that.

  • Pen Tool for precise cuts
  • Layer Masks with brushes, filters, etc when it has to be fluffy

Nice presentation. I do use all of the methods you list - either alone or in combination. Have to admit, your pen tutorial was one of the very helpful ones in teaching me that particular skill!

Very helpful. I use a rough select (magic wand or lasso) > layer mask > paint black and white technique. I'll have to try some of the other techniques. I've never tried refine edge.

:blowkiss: glad you find it useful! refine edge can be a blessing and a curse cos sometimes it just doesn't work no matter what you try and by the time you realize it you've spent ages fiddling ^^

:aww: Well, my bf and I were discussing cut out techniques last night. He was just going through with an eraser. I use the mask, because I'd hate to have erased something too far back in the history and need to start over.... He's a perfectionist that does every line and dot perfectly. Whereas, I'm rather sloppy and all over the place ;D

:giggle: oh I hear you there! Before I knew masks I was trying to do a birthday card for my dad, cutting out my dad on his bike... I was almost done when I saw I had erased the spokes :faint: of course I had to start over ^^

A fantastic guide!!! I totally agree: there is no best way to cut out something. It all depends on what kind of image you are using and what result you'd like to get! Thank you for this great tutorial! <3

Nice! I learned a lot from this. Thank you!

P.S. If it's not much to ask, can you recommend brushes for fur and the latter?
