Fantastic Stock and Where To Find It - Feature 24I've been making a collection of some of the brilliant stock artists
works that I have come across. It started off as stock I can't provide
myself so I look for other peoples so I can suggest them. The way I
choose is quite odd, when I see a stock image I have an instant image in
my head of what I could do or create out of that piece of stock. The
image also has to be crystal clear and easily altered.

Project Educate: Photographing Your Crafts...

Photographing crafts is not as daunting as it seems. For those of you out there with amazing creative streaks in you, it isn't actually that difficult to take it one step further and put the effort into snapping your wonderful creations. It just takes a little planning, a camera and some creativity.

The Don'ts...
Rule Number One
Never ever ever ever ever Photograph something on your bed. Ever. I mean it! Your bed is for sleeping, and er, other things. But definitely not for placing your well constructed craft item upon, pointing your camera at, and pressing the button.
You might think I'm stating the obvious but seriously, the amount of people who think they'll just pop their item on the bed and take a picture...is..well..I don't have the statistics but there are many of Us!

What is photomanipulation?
The official definition of "photomanipulation" (PM), according to deviantART, is: an image that is composed of two or more photographic elements to create something new. This definition has been very nicely analyzed and distinguished from other genres here, here, and here, but let's talk briefly about the three main components o

Current dA submissions guidelines define "Fantasy Photomanipulation" as photomanipulation that focuses on a fantasy theme.

We have therefore set out to speak with our fantasy constituency and gain a better understanding of how they see and define the complexities of fantasy photomanipulation.

We all know of dragons, wizards, sorcerers, witches, griffins, magic, fairies, fauns, and all other mystical and magical beings. We learned of them through stories, art, movies, and games. The fantasy genre has become increasingly popular because of movies like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and games like "Dungeons & Dragons" and "World of Warcraft," not to forget fantasy wr

Stock Features 2013 - #01Providing stock to the DA community is maybe one of the most demanding and least rewarding jobs here on DA!
Stockers need to put up simple rules, like crediting and providing a link back to where the stock was used.
Maybe it's just me, but I think this should be a natural response to do. People have no problems with expressing their gratitude when it comes to any deviations other then stock. Most of the time people comment on stock because it is the stockers rule to do so.
A nice piece of recognition for a stocker to get is a DD.
These Daily Deviations are sometimes hard to come by.
Luckily for us stock providers we have the wonderful ^Elandria and ^PirateLotus-Stock to help keep us motivated with awarding those so desired DD's!
Having said this, I would like to finish this journal with some of my personal favorite stocks that really should have a DD notification under their stock photo!
For DD consideration...

Becoming a Verified Safe Stock Resource ProviderEarlier we brought up the importance of providing valid and safe resources as stock providers. We are the front lines, so to speak, on ensuring the quality and validity of our resources. We mentioned in our last blog (which you can read below) about a way to become verified safe stock providers. There was a lot of positive feedback on the idea. The question was how to prevent those who would abuse a stamp from using it.
~hyenacub-stock suggested creating an alternate group that only certain members can join as a method for preventing the "posers." *EveLivesey suggested the name "Safe Stock" for the project. So, by combining the two ideas, we now have a sister group called #Safe-Stock-Resources. I've spent some time this evening fleshing out the group page, and I believe that it's a good start.

Your Personal Stock TermsThe Language You Use Is Very Important
deviantART has a large and devoted stock resource community and we really do appreciate their presence and their generosity with the community.
I do have something very important I'd like to mention for everyone who offers some sort of stock resource so hopefully those who read my journal will help to disseminate the information and spread it around to those who might not otherwise read it.
The concern that I have is Terms of Use.
Officially deviantART maintains only one "automatic" restriction and that is "No Commercial Use" and that particular restriction can easily be overridden by the actual stock provider.
As far as official policy is concerned each stock resource provider is free to attach any Terms of Use, restrictions or requirements that they see fit and I and my staff will do the best we can to help you enforce your rules when you need the assistance.
We only ask a few things from you in return.

Premium ContentI just wanted to tell you that while there WILL be Premium Content Resources by me, this does NOT mean I will be stopping to give the greatest part out for free just like I've been doing for years.
To those who complain that the new Premium Content Platform will take away their free stock and they simply can't afford to buy PC I can only say: shut up and wait until you've seen what really happens before you start whining. No one I've talked to has said they're switching to all exclusive stock. And if some stockers do, it's not the end of the world. Maybe you just need to put in a weeee bit more time into searching for what you can use, but someone out there will always have what you need. You just have to put in the effort to find it (just like some people need to put in the effort to read terms of use before using images in ways they weren't meant to be used - but that's a different story).
